So you’re in the market for a new phone, eh? Looking for that perfect upgrade and wondering should you grab that iPhone or pick up an Android. If you’re already using one or the other, chances are your mind is set and there’s little we can do to sway you.

If not? Here’s a few standout features of Android that just might be enough to help you with your next smart phone purchase. While Apple has a lot going for their brand and in particular their phones, you can always count on Android to appeal to a wider audience with their large range of options, prices, and customizations. Let’s jump in!

Budget Friendly

The big one. The Yay or Nay. The “Wait, how much is this?” If you’re looking for a completely acceptable smart phone, designed to accommodate your needs at a basic level, Android is where it’s at. Most providers offer discounts or deals for cheaper phones so long as you sign into a contract with them. With Android, you don’t need to sign your next two years away in order to get a cheap phone.

Many brands offer Android phones for low-prices, some even under $100. Admittedly, these won’t be taking any eye-poppingly gorgeous photos or run the latest games, but if you need a cheap phone that gets the job done, Android has your back.

More Options

Like, a lot. A huge amount of options. Apple is a single brand with a single line of phones. There’s always a few choices between each year’s release, but it’s basically iPhone, and slightly better iPhone, and the “best” iPhone. There’s not a lot to choose from.

On the other hand, with Android you’ve got Samsung, HTC, Google, Motorola, Nokia, and the list goes on. Each of these brands has a number of different options, offering great phones at every price point. If you’re looking for options and don’t want to be funneled into a single brand, you’ll have good luck with Android.

Better Hardware (for the Price)

Huge caveat here, Apple has better quality hardware. The phones last longer, they’re more durable, and they’re fairly future proof. However, you will definitely pay for that privilege. While maybe not as hardy as the newest iPhone model, Android still provides excellent quality phones for sometimes as little as half the price of an iPhone.

And let’s be honest here, if you remove “gotta have the newest” out of the equation, you can find an excellent quality phone with all the latest features with many of the brands that have Android-powered phones. The difference between better and best is usually negligible, but you’ll pay a premium for it.

Android (Usually) Does It First

Apple always makes a big splash about their latest version of the iPhone and all it’s cool new tricks. The thing is, most of these tricks have already been done before on Android. Customizable menus? Android was first. Waterproof/resistant? Android. USB-C connections? Yup. Android.

This certainly doesn’t mean Android does it best, but they definitely do it first. If you’re one of those tech-loving individuals who loves to have the newest features first, Android is where it’s at. If you’d like to have refined features and don’t mind waiting a few years, iPhone typically makes those features better.

Freedom to Customize

This is a huge selling point for many people. iPhones may be slick and fancy, but they are not open to change. With the exception of wallpaper and apps, when you buy an iPhone you get what you get. Mind you, some people are fine with that. And that’s awesome! You do you. On the other hand, many users like the freedom to make their device….their device.

From basic changes, like remapping buttons and changing how your home screen looks, to more in-depth changes, like reprogramming how your phone works, Android truly is the best option when it comes to user-friendly customization options.
