Even though summer doesn’t officially start till June 24th, the temperature, weather, and lack of school is enough to say, yeah. It’s summer. While the coming months promise vacations, road trips, camping, and other fun activities, some of us are looking forward to the quintessential outdoor cooking experience: Grilling.

From steaks and brats, to pizza, veggies, fruit and more, firing up the BBQ is reason enough to get excited for warmer months. Here are 4 types of grills to help you bring your best meals to the table this summer.

Charcoal

The charcoal grill is a trusty, if not a bit finicky, piece of cooking hardware. These grills require charcoal briquettes to get going and you’ll need to be a bit more involved with the cooking process. However, the results are often worth it, with food that has a more authentic BBQ flavor than other types of grilling. This is due to the heat reaching a higher temp than most grills. If you’re willing to invest some of your time and patience, a charcoal grill can provide some truly excellent BBQ meals.

Gas

Not a fan of high-maintenance cooking? Consider using a gas grill. These fast starting, easy-to-clean grills provide the most control over the level of heat and often come with a number of features to help enhance your cooking experience. You also won’t have to worry about stocking up on charcoal (though you will need propane). A common choice among many BBQ-ers, the gas grill often has multiple sections, allowing you to cook, or heat, different types of foods at the same time. While you might lose out on some of the authentic flavors that come with charcoal grills, using a gas unit provides a convenience that can’t be beat.

Electric

This type of grill is probably more common than you think. In fact, you’ve probably used one at some point in your life. If you’re thinking about a George Foreman, you know what we’re talking about. Electric grills are easy, convenient, and far more versatile than other types of grills. However, that versatility comes at a cost: you probably won’t be searing any fish or getting a nice crust on your steaks. This is due primarily to the type of heating an electric grill provides. If you’re ok with that, you’ll be pleased to know that electric grills provide the most consistent heating of any unit. Not getting a sear might be worth the ease and speed an electric grill provides.

Pellet

Pellet grills take the flavor of charcoal, the convenience of gas, and combine it with the features of smokers while wrapping it all up in an oven-like cooking experience. They really are the Swiss Army knife of grills. What’s more, the pellets you use are often infused with a variety of natural flavors. Looking for an Applewood smoked brisket? There’s a pellet type for you. Are you more of a Mesquite fan? They have those, too. If you’re a pro looking for the ultimate grilling machine, look no further than a pellet grill. You won’t be disappointed.
