Let’s be honest, no one wants to empty their wallets each year to make sure they’re up to date on the latest and greatest home trends, but just in case you are starting out or you just want to invest in some pieces to stand the test of time, here are some recommendations for the new year:

Maximalism

This is exactly what it sounds like: the opposite of minimalism. Think textured fabrics, layered patterns, and mixing and matching décor styles. It might sound chaotic, but once it’s gathered together in an organized fashion, you can show the true colors of your personality through your home space.

Curved Lines

The past few years have been filled with square and clean edges, however we are starting to see a trend in curved furniture for the upcoming year. Rounded couches, kidney shaped coffee tables, curvy chairs. If you hop onto Google to look this up, you’ll see how magnificent it looks when all the furniture in a room flows together from their curved lines.

Antiquing

If you really want to stand out from the cookie-cutter home catalog, check out your local thrift and antique shops to find one-of-a-kind pieces! Seek out some brass statues, old instruments, or an amber glass set for a little pop of color. You never know what you’ll find while treasure hunting through an antique store, but you could find the next keystone piece that ends up being your favorite decoration.

Investment Pieces

Think of armoires, buffet tables, sitting chairs, ornate cabinets. Things that won’t tend to deteriorate through time and made with high quality resources. These are the pieces you’ll pass along to your children’s children and will be a talking piece in every home you live in.

Art

There are many forms of art between a $30 canvas at a department store and a $10k piece from a well-renowned artist. Check up on your local calendar to see when an art festival will be in town and find a piece from a local artist! This way, you’ll get an original piece and support someone’s passion (who knows, they might be the next Picasso!).

Sustainable, environmentally conscious furniture

Current generations spending their money on their homes (GenZ and millennials) are buying more secondhand and items made of recycled or scrapped materials. Buying secondhand is definitely the most sustainable option, but many companies are trying to do their part with helping the environment by using recycled materials. There are many certifications an item can possess from being certified. Look for rankings for emissions certifications, Tropical Timber Organization, GreenGuard Gold, or Fair Trade.

Just remember, you don’t need to get everything at once! Map out your wish list and search for exactly what will fit your home. If you’re wanting to get started today, many of these items can be found at one of our partnered retailers to get you started!
